The whole highlight of our vacation to Morocco was this three-day excursion from Fes to Merzouga and back. Every stop, from the chilly mountain air in Ifrane to the bright golden dunes of the Sahara, was like entering a postcard. Our guide made sure we were comfortable all through, was kind and informed. It was bizarre to ride camels into the dunes at dusk and spend the night in a luxurious desert tent under star-filled sky. We really appreciated learning about nomadic life and visiting nearby Berber people. There were many of picture breaks and great food on the rather fast trip. Highly suggest it to anybody looking to quickly savor Morocco’s natural beauty and cultural legacy.
Though it was beyond our expectations, we were not sure what to anticipate from a 3-day desert trip. Though the trip from Fes was lengthy, the scenery varied continuously and the pauses at the cedar forest and Ziz Valley were breathtaking. The desert itself was magical; our camel journey to the camp at nightfall was amazing, and the camp itself was tidy, cosy, and had fantastic food and music. Discovering the desert towns and listening to Gnawa music in Khamlia on the second day helped us to understand regional customs. The return drive to Fes went well and was picturesque. The driver was professional and attentive; the whole trip was orderly. Valuable every minute!
